Loading...Sewanee, Tennessee—The Woods Leadership Award is presented annually to a middler seminarian at the School of Theology who has successfully taken the initiative in assuming a leadership role in the class during their junior year. This year’s award was given to M.Div. student Margaret Elizabeth Langford Farr, T’18, from the Diocese of East Tennessee.
The award’s recipient is decided by the dean and faculty of The School of Theology and was announced at the University of the South’s Founders’ Day convocation on Oct. 7, 2016.
A self-described “cradle Episcopalian,” Farr is a 2007 graduate of the University of the South College of Arts and Sciences, and has served as a youth director at Bruton Parish, Williamsburg, Virginia, and, most recently, at Good Shepherd, Lookout Mountain, Tennessee.
This award defines leadership as the ability to bring people together into a cooperative community to accomplish assigned tasks and to identify and implement strategies, goals, and programs. Established by Granville Cecil Woods and James Albert Woods, the award recognizes students of the School of Theology who make a significant contribution to the quality of the community’s life.
“It is an honor and privilege to worship, study, and practice community with my fellow students and professors at the School of Theology,” expressed Farr upon hearing of the award. “I am humbled; it is a gift to engage in a time of intentional formation like that which seminary allows directed toward vocation in service to Christ’s Church. I am immeasurably grateful for the joy of sharing this journey with my husband, Matt, and our son, Rohen. Our family is blessed by the love and support of many: family and friends; the people of Good Shepherd, Lookout Mountain, and the Diocese of East Tennessee."
