July 1 2012--a year ago Rev. Claire and I were spending 8 weeks in a lovely cabin in far northwest Wisconsin--right on the Totagadic River, maybe 50 mi. SE of Duluth MN. I was blogging every day about the river, writing  broken haikus for the most part. Claire had just come back from Bishop Young's ordination, and was off to the WalMart in Hayward to do a month's grocery shopping.

And then the river came after me. A wall of wind and water and trees, coming due east up the river directly at the screened in porch where I was having that slow DANGER reaction--"hmmm--possible problem--hmmm--BIG problem" and backing up off the porch. It was a baby tornado, one that missed our cabin by about 30 yards. Scared the foo out of me, couldn't imagine why I hadn't been in the basement long before it hit. Just that human thing about being reluctant to declare an emergency--too busy watching the weather show of wind and water and trees.

Made it hard to write the same sappy blogs about the river afterwards. It's one thing to go down to the river to pray--quite another to have the river come up the hill after you.

?Wonder which approach GC will take?
