From Bishop Brian
June 22, 2018
Have just returned with East Tennessee pilgrims from the Diocese of Kondoa in Tanzania. it will take much time to process all that we saw and encountered while there. At one point, we were sharing a meal in the home of Bishop Given with individuals from New Zealand, Tanzania, England, Kenya, and the U.S. It was a Body of Christ moment.
Our trip there took place during the crisis related to family separation on the southern U.S. borders. I am grateful for all the many and diverse voices that condemned the practice. As pilgrims from the U.S. in Tanzania, the hospitality shown to us (strangers) was Christ-like and reminded me again and again that we share this globe with the whole people of God.
We need each other. We must reject policies and practices that dehumanize others and inflict harm and hurt upon children. We must also expect more from our nation's leaders. True leadership is situated in a moral center.
